We all know that the app development world is pretty vast. There are apps for pretty much anyone out there to use. Educational apps, applications build purely for entertainment, e-commerce apps, etc. If you’re looking to build one yourself, simply head over to www.duetrade.co.uk and get a consultation on app development.
However, there are not only applications built with just the regular consumer in mind. There are apps specifically dedicated to other businesses as well. In this article, we are going to take a look at these apps and see how B2B and B2C apps differ from one another.
1. The User Base
As you might have guessed, B2B apps have a much smaller user base compared to the B2C ones. After all, they are built with a certain type of business in mind, whereas B2C applications are catered to the entire public. Not only that but the users are acquired differently as well. For example, most B2C apps build a user base by launching themselves in the AppStore. They further need to rely on media marketing campaigns and advertisement. The story with B2B mobile apps is quite different. Getting an entire business as a user is much more difficult than obtaining regular users. Therefore, the cost per lead is usually much higher, compared to B2C.
2. They Have a Different Impact
By that, I mean that B2C apps are focused on grabbing the attention of their users, where B2B is solely focused on problem-solving.. Consumer applications are specifically built to catch the user’s attention and keep them engaged as much as possible. Therefore, apps like these put a heavy emphasis on design. They need to look good so they can attract the user. A B2B app user is strictly there to solve a problem, they don’t need to be entertained or spend a lot of time on the application, thus the design is not as important.
3. They Have a Different Business Model
And finally one of the most striking differences between the two is their business models. For example, let’s take a look at their monetization strategies. We all know that most B2C apps come free of charge, right? They typically make a profit via advertisements or by putting certain features behind a paywall. Of course, there are other ways B2C apps make money, such as making the app paid, or offering a monthly subscription. B2B apps, however, rely on licenses, but they also can offer paid subscriptions and premium features. From a marketing standpoint, B2C applications usually allocate a much larger budget catered towards promotion. After all, the app development industry is as busy as ever, and the competition is fierce. Therefore, the B2C market is typically harder to penetrate, regardless of how big the budget for marketing is. Furthermore, retaining users is not as easy for apps catered to consumers, due to how versatile the market is. They are typically able to retain customers for long periods of time without much effort, therefore the marketing budget is not as large because they do not need to constantly attract new users.
